Canvassing West Jordan Neighborhoods Oct. 18, 2009

This weekend was very rewarding.  I was able to get out into the local neighborhoods and meet some of the great people living here in West Jordan.  Some of the issues that we discussed include:

•    My focus on improved transportation, safety, and infrastructure issues related to our rapid growth.
•    The city budget and my desire to carefully manage it and make sure it is balanced in these difficult economic times.

Tomorrow I have a Western Growth meeting at City Hall.  Since West Jordan is growing so rapidly, this is an important meeting that I am excited to attend.

On Tuesday I will be going to a Meet the Candidates meeting at West Hills Middle School at 7 pm.  West Hills Jr. High is located at:  8270 South Grizzly Way in West Jordan.  This meeting is open to the public and I encourage all West Jordan residents to attend.

Cottage Meeting Oct. 13, 2009

Last night we had a cottage meeting at the home of Sam and Faralyn Burggraaf.  We had a good turnout and I felt very positive about the meeting.  One of the items of discussion last night was the lack of representation from West Jordan at stateand federal functions and events.  If I am elected I plan to have a strong representation of the City with county, state and federal agencies and groups, and represent the interests of our City (the 4th largest city in the State of Utah).

By doing this we will be able to attract additional funding for our growth and development.

Tomorrow I am looking forward to the West Jordan Chamber of Commerce Luncheon and campaigning later in the evening in some of the local neighborhoods.

City Councilman, Lyle Summers

Today I met with City Councilman, Lyle Summers.  I was very excited and grateful to meet with Lyle to discuss West Jordan City and the upcoming election.

Lyle has been on the city council for three terms, a total of 12 years.  He is in District 4.   In each of the three terms, a new mayor has been elected.  Councilman Summers was a strong supporter of our last mayor, Mayor Newton.

We talked about the city and Lyle feels the city is doing extremely well.  When he first became a Councilman he had many concerns about the city. He believes that our city employees are the best in the state.  He is extremely pleased with the police officers who have been recruited and retained.

We also discussed the current budget.  There are going to be some tough decisions this year in order to balance the budget.Councilman Lyle Summers  gave me his support in the upcoming Mayoral election and is going to post some of my signs on his lawn and neighborhood.

It was a pleasure to meet with Councilman Summers and I’m looking forward to working with him in the future.

Why Mayor of West Jordan Utah?

After moving here almost 20 years ago, it was hard to imagine the explosive growth that West Jordan has seen.  Having become one of the most populous cities in Utah, West Jordan has a lot of challenges and—more importantly—opportunities ahead.  I believe to realize these opportunities we need focused, careful management of our city government, along with promoting a climate conducive to sensible business development.  I believe the role of government, on whatever level, is to create opportunity and reward hard work of its citizens.

I’m excited about the campaign for mayor of West Jordan Utah and hope you will return here often and share your thoughts on the future of West Jordan.
